In our last road trip series, we did a 14-day road trip but we have been requested to also do a shorter one for those of you who do not have much time to visit our beautiful country. We have then created another great itinerary and this time it is counterclockwise, welcome to our post for an Iceland Road Trip: 10-Day Itinerary.

Iceland is full of great nature wonders and it is almost impossible to see every single one in such a short period of time but it does not mean you will miss the essence of Iceland. Many of these sites do summarize quite well what Icelandic nature has to offer and I am sure that once you discover our land, you will come back for a second round! Day 1: Arrival in Iceland. Day 5: We will visit the fishing town of Höfn with amazing views of the Vatnajökull Glacier., which we can hike.

  • Egilsstadir town where you can hike to Hengifoss
  • Eskifjordur a town where you can stay overnight, its natural port is stunning.

Day 6: We are already getting to the northeast of the island. We will be visiting:

  • Detifoss: the most powerful waterfall in Europe
  • Jökulsárgljúfur National Park, close to Detifoss, its amazing canyon- Ásbyrgi- will leave you breathless!
  • Mývatn lake, you can stay overnight at any of the two towns that lie by the lake: Reykjahlíð and Skútustaðir.

Day 7: We are going to spend the day at the most amazing place for this Iceland Road Trip – 10 Days Around Iceland Itinerary, and there are many! But I just love Askja so much. You will be able to visit a volcano caldera and the area looks otherworldly. To all of our readers out there, it is good to point out that Askja is accessible only during the summer time as the F-roads to this area are closed during the winter time.
